5 Summer Skincare Tips from Alaena DeGeare | Menifee, CA
How to protect, hydrate, and glow even in peak sun season!
Here at The Menifee Experience we want to bring our residents the most up-to-date information on how to stay new. better. best. So we partnered with local Esthetician Alaena DeGeare who founded and owns The Healing Square. Alaena’s office is located at 27331 Chase Road.
Below is What Alaena (Licensed Esthetician) Has to Say
“Summer sunshine feels amazing, but it can leave your skin vulnerable to dryness, premature aging, and UV damage if you’re not careful. As an esthetician, I always say summer skin is always in, you just need the right tools and a little consistency. Whether you’re poolside, on vacation, or just out running errands, these are my top five tips for protecting and nourishing your skin all season long.

1. Know the UV Index
UV rays are invisible but powerful because UVA rays age the skin, and UVB rays burn it.
The UV Index ranges from 0 to 11+, telling you how intense sun exposure is each day. Even moderate levels (3-5) require SPF and barrier protection. When the index is high (6+), damage can occur in minutes, especially if you’re near water or reflective surfaces like pavement or sand.
2. Sunscreen Every Single Day
Rain or shine, indoors or out SPF is a non-negotiable. Look for broad-spectrum, mineral-based sunscreens with at least SPF 30. I love vacation-ready options like Naked Sundays SPF50, which layers beautifully as a makeup alternative without clogging the pores. My favorite sunscreens are Vacation, Coola, Sun Bum and make up ready Naked Sunday. Reapply every 2 hours when swimming or sweating for the best protection.
3. Don’t Skip Physical Protection
Sunscreen is essential but it’s not enough on its own. Wide-brimmed hats, UPF-rated clothing, and seeking shade during peak hours (10 AM-4 PM) offer crucial physical defense. A light linen cover-up or sun umbrella can be game-changers for long outdoor days. Your skin will thank you later. Remember sun damage appears year later as premature aging, pigmentation damage and age spots/sun spots.
4. Rehydrate with Whole-Skin Nourishment
Sun, saltwater, wind, and chlorine can quickly dehydrate and inflame the skin. After sun exposure, reach for deeply restorative products. My Original Tallow cream is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K and melts seamlessly into the skin to calm irritation, lock in hydration, and rebuild your moisture barrier. It’s a must for summer skin that feels dry, tight, or a little sun kissed.
For those with eczema, sun exposure can actually make flare-ups more severe. UV stress can weaken the skin’s barrier, leading to increased sensitivity, redness, and itching. That’s why after-sun care is just as important as SPF. My Original Tallow cream can help calm irritation, lock in hydration, and rebuild your moisture barrier. Whether you’re dealing with post-sun dryness or reactive, sensitive skin, it delivers the nourishment your skin needs to heal, stay soft, calm, and resilient all summer long.
5. Keep It Simple, But Consistent
You don’t need a 10-step routine, just a smart, nourishing one. Cleanse gently, protect with SPF, and hydrate deeply every night. A few consistent habits (like using SPF daily and applying your tallow cream at night) go a long way in keeping your skin soft, calm, and glowing all summer long.”
