I am still thinking about what I experienced during my visit to Pattie’s Ranch, home of SAVE The Animals Today (STAT) Sanctuary in Hemet.
What I expected to find was a rescue ranch. What I discovered was something much more meaningful.
The sanctuary is home to horses, donkeys, goats, alpacas, and other farm animals that have spent their lives serving others. Many worked on farms, carried riders, or simply outlived the purpose society assigned them. When they were no longer needed, Pattie stepped in to give them a second chance.

“This Sanctuary is my ministry, and ministry is sharing your talents and resources to serve others” — Patty Roberts
What amazed me the most was Pattie herself.
As I walked the property with Pattie, it became clear that every animal has a story, and she knows them all. Their histories, personalities, and challenges are as familiar to her as family members.
Lively, passionate, and incredibly strong-minded, she spoke openly about the challenges of running a sanctuary. Feed, veterinary care, maintenance, and emergencies never stop. Yet neither does her commitment to the animals.
Because when an animal depends on you, giving up is not an option.
Beyond animal rescue, the ranch serves as a place of healing. Seniors, veterans, at-risk youth, and children with autism are welcome to experience the calming connection that exists between people and animals. The sanctuary also hosts weekly volunteer opportunities and community service projects that allow visitors to make a meaningful difference.
Although Pattie has received numerous awards for her service, it was obvious that recognition is not what drives her. Her reward is seeing a once-forgotten animal finally living in peace.
As I left the ranch, I couldn’t help but think about how rare places like this have become. The animals at STAT Sanctuary cannot ask for help. They rely on people like Pattie and a community willing to support her mission.
If you’ve ever wondered whether one person can change lives, spend a few hours at Pattie’s Ranch.
You’ll discover that one person already has.
