Interview With Mayor Estrada of Menifee

An Open Conversation with Mayor Estrada

Menifee is a city that doesn’t sit still. The population has grown from roughly 102,527 in 2020 to over 130,000 according to the latest updates. Menifee is one of Southern California’s fastest-growing communities. Managing that kind of momentum takes more than good intentions. It takes leadership with a clear sense of direction.

In the first episode of Voices of the Valley, I had the chance to sit down with Mayor Ricky Estrada to talk about the excitement and challenges our beautiful city faces today.

Elected in November 2024, Mayor Estrada brings a rare combination of experience to the role. He’s a city leader, a teacher, and an active U.S. Air Force Reservist. The conversation covered Menifee’s rapid growth, the importance of community engagement, and his upcoming six-month deployment overseas.

His Thoughts on Menifee’s Rapid Growth

Growth brings real benefits such as new businesses, expanded services, and fresh infrastructure. But it also brings pressure. More residents mean more demand on roads, parks, schools, and housing. Mayor Estrada doesn’t shy away from acknowledging that tension.

During the conversation, he reflected on how growth is reshaping city services and transportation planning, stressing that local voices need to remain central to how that development unfolds. For Estrada, getting the balance right isn’t just a planning challenge, but a responsibility to the people who already call Menifee home.

One initiative that stood out in the discussion was the city’s recent purchase of nearly 400 acres of land for the Menifee Hills park. The land is to be dedicated as recreational space for hiking and parks. This shows a direct response to the community’s need for green space as density increases. It’s the kind of forward-looking decision that signals how the city is thinking about long-term livability, not just short-term development.

“Menifee residents want entertainment, they want amenities, they want more reasons to stay in Menifee.” Mayor Estrada noted. As we discussed his excitement for our city’s future, he told me, “I’m going to be rooting for Menifee when I’m gone and deployed.”

Community Engagement

For Mayor Estrada, one of the central questions Menifee must keep asking is: how do we grow without losing what makes this place worth living in?

His answer centers on engagement. As the city expands, civic participation becomes more critical than ever. Residents who stay informed, show up to meetings, and make their voices heard have the most influence over how their neighborhoods develop. That’s not a platitude; it’s a practical reality of local government.

Mayor Estrada speaks about development with a clear set of priorities: infrastructure, parks, entertainment, and maintaining the character that has drawn so many families to Menifee in the first place.

Mayor Estrada’s Deployment Overseas

A significant portion of the Voices of the Valley conversation focused on the news that made regional headlines: Mayor Estrada’s activation by the U.S. Air Force for a six-month deployment overseas, beginning in October 2025.

Estrada has served as a Reservist in the U.S. Air Force alongside his roles as mayor and teacher; a combination that speaks to his broader commitment to public service. When the call to active duty came, he addressed his constituents directly.

“I love Menifee and America, and that is why I have dedicated my life to public service as a Mayor, Teacher, and Reservist, as I believe God has put us on this earth to show love for one another,” he said.

“During my deployment, I will continue to communicate with our City leadership and stay updated on local activities. Upon my return in six months, I look forward to continuing all the great momentum our city has accomplished.”

The city has confirmed that public services will continue uninterrupted throughout the deployment period. Estrada is expected to return and resume full mayoral duties in spring 2026.

A City in Motion

What this conversation ultimately reflects is a city navigating a defining period in its history. Menifee is growing faster than most. Its infrastructure is evolving. Its community is diversifying. And through all of it, the questions Mayor Estrada keeps returning to are the right ones: Who benefits from this growth? How do we stay connected as neighbors? What will Menifee’s unique identity be?

His deployment is a temporary absence, but it also highlights something important about the city’s resilience. Strong local government doesn’t depend on any single person. It depends on institutions, councils, and communities that continue to function and move forward together.

Menifee’s story is still being written. And if this conversation is any indication, the city has leadership that understands both the weight and the opportunity of that moment.
