If you are familiar with Southern California weather, you know it can get pretty hot in the Summertime, and Menifee is no exception. However, residents have discovered ways to stay cool with outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, biking, and golfing in the summertime sunshine.
Swimming
Menifee has quite a few master planned communities with swimming pools available to long-term locals and their guests, as well as homes for sale with private pools to make the summer heat more fun. If you want more excitement, you can visit the Drop Zone Water Park in Perris, which is a short 20 min drive from Menifee.
Public Parks and Outdoor Trails
Menifee houses 48+ public parks that attract residents and visitors to our beautiful city. The most-popular parks include amenities such as pickleball courts, soccer fields, walking trails, and off-leash dog parks. Each playground has a unique theme or design, and there is also adult exercise equipment at many of our parks.
When the sun goes down, the air gets very cold at night and offers a great opportunity for walking on one of our multiple well-maintained and lit walking trails. Many nights, as you drive past our local parks, you will also see our active residents on the basketball courts getting exercise in the cool air.
A favorite walking/biking attraction among our residents is the Salt Creek Trail, which is entirely paved and runs more than 8.5 miles round-trip. If you want something more adventurous, we also have over 20 different hiking trails located in our city, including the newly added Menifee Hills Public Park, which sits on over 400 acres of publicly owned recreational space for residents to enjoy. (City Council announced the purchase of this land in late 2025).
Home to SoCal’s Largest BMX Park
You can’t stop by the City of Menifee for active recreation without stopping to check out our new BMX Pump Track; The Gale Webb Action Sports Park is the largest of its kind in Southern California. This amazing local attraction brings residents and professional BMX stunt riders to our town regularly, and it even has ramps for our beginner residents and youth to practice on.
Menifee’s Dining Scene
Wondering what there is to eat in here? The answer may surprise you, as we have more than what you see driving down Newport Road. Menifee derived its cuisine options from the fact that we are mostly a residential town, and this left citizens feeling disappointed with too many chain food options and not enough locally-owned, diverse eateries.
However, today is a completely different story! Roughly 5 years ago, the housing market boomed brining thousands of citizens from all over the United States to our suburban town, myself included. With this massive influx of new dwellers from 2020-2025, this boomtown now has hundreds of new and improved cuisine options that our locals enjoy, that the surrounding population has yet to discover. Specifically, we are home to local hotspots like Tacos & Tequila, Rosai Indian, Nini’s BBQ, and Grey Iron Brewing Co., all of which opened recently and have had massive success in our area. Now that we’ve covered how the dining scene has grown and expanded over the past half a decade, let’s discuss what kind of shops and stores are available. Locals and visitors can shop at both national chains and unique local stores. Of course, there are recognized names like Target, Ross, Kohl’s, and Boot Barn for shopping, but if you’re like me, you want to know that local stores are available too.
If you’re looking for locally sourced or ethnic groceries, we have Stater Bros Market, Sprouts Farmers Market, Asian Mini-Mart, and newly opened Regalado’s Market. We also have a few handmade shops that make the list of top shopping, including Malibu Chocolates & Espresso in Sun City, and Robell’s Cookies (home-based specialty cookies). These hidden gems attract visitors from all over the state who come visit our shops and try out local specialty stores.
Jobs Available in Menifee
The job market in Menifee Valley needs improvement for sure, as many of our long-term locals moved here with the intention of commuting to larger nearby cities. There is a lack of industry-oriented occupations, which often means we have to seek specialized job opportunities that can be up to hours away from our homes. Our top employers within city limits include: Mt. San Jacinto College, the Menifee Union School District, and the City of Menifee, just to name a few.
If you have a professional career that isn’t remote, you may find it hard to obtain a position that checks all the boxes on your list. The majority of open jobs here are retail-based and entry-level, making it very competitive for a local to find a job. Most available spots will recieve hundreds-to-thousands of applications, and they can only pick one candidate, making it a lengthy and discouraging process.
Menifee’s History
Menifee has a vibrant history, is considered very young, and is deeply rooted in the early development of Southern California. Inside Southwest Riverside County, the area that would become our favorite suburb of San Diego was originally inhabited by the Indigenous Luiseño people, who lived along the freshwater streams. Early development included initial settlement and growth phases that laid the foundation for the city’s future expansion.
During the 1800s, the area became part of Rancho Pauba and Rancho Santa Rosa, large land grants under Mexican rule, before transitioning to American governance after California joined the United States in September 1850. Mining began in the area after the discovery of a significant quartz lode by miner Luther Menifee Wilson in the surrounding hills, which is believed to have been a major factor in attracting settlers. The expansion of the railroad brought in people from all over the world. Mining and farming activities were concentrated in specific areas of Menifee, shaping the region’s economic and social landscape. The area began and continues to grow as a city for families, as the original pioneers moved here with the intentions of farming and raising their children here.
